Mission Accomplished!
June 27th, 2009
Here is an exerpt of what Mr. Christmas emailed me about the court hearing:
Hello Walter,
We accompished our goal. The Michigan Central Depot lives. I will
make a transcript of the court proceedings and you may post it on the
internet for all who signed the petition.
When I get the documents from him I will post them on the blog.
Thanks everyone!
Great news. Now it is time to form a non-profit like Buffalo and enlist volunteers and money pledges from various people and corporations who may want to donate. This is great news!
I think a non profit organization/volunteers/ pledges sounds great!!!! I was so excited when I heard the great news. Now lets see this building live and get back to the way it used to be before it closed!!! Thanks to all the people who helped this become a remarkable outcome!!!!
Now all you folks need to do is get Mr. Moroun to surrender the building to the preservation community. We at the CTRC in Buffalo are willing to offer advice and ideas for organizing your preservation group. Contact us!
BTW the 80th anniversary at BCT last night was great! We got the concourse clock back, a beautiful new replica of the original dedication plaque, and new railings above the ticket counters in the concourse, built up to original blueprints by a Buffalo company, and installed by local union tradespeople. See http://buffalocentralterminal.org or the Buffalo Central Terminal photostream at http://www.flickr.com
Next is relamping the concourse ceiling, and making the office areas marketable to investors and developers so renovations can be made and businesses can start moving in.
That sounds great Paul. How was the attendance to the event? The pictures looked great. I wish I lived there so I could come down and help in person. You are making great progress there in Buffalo.
Like Mike Miller said on our website, it was a nice manageable crowd. Hopefully by the 85th, BCT will be well on its way back.
Even if high speed rail doesn’t come to be, if Amtrak returned with conventional rail service, and the local metro rail from downtown Buffalo to BCT, the airport and beyond goes in, by then hopefully BCT will once again be a bustling commercial center. The return of rail service will be an added bonus. Hopefully the addition of a bus terminal, rental car agency, ATM’s and one or two express banking offices there in the business park there will provide one-stop convenience. Hopefully by then we will have public WiFi internet there too for travelers to enjoy while on layover.
New website with updates and volunteer effort to refurbish the station. Check it out. Also facebook connection.http://www.facebook.com/event.php?eid=110409982845&ref=ts#/group.php?gid=178565380054

@Charles Forssi
I want to thank you, Charles, for this. I’ve been called back to work, working 10 hours a day plus weekends. Plus the being in Wisconsin situation doesn’t help.
Thanks once again for all of your efforts!
I’m a Canadian Clean Energy executive. I’m happy to see the effort to preserve this property. Are the current owners donating the title of the building to a preservation committee? I’d be happy to help in the effort to restore the property with green energy principles in mind.
Vladimir, would you also be interested in applying these green principles in Buffalo at the Central Terminal too? If so, please contact the CTRC at webmaster@buffalocentralterminal.org Thanks!
